It's pretty odd and tragic the way our priorities at times backfire. A lot of parents I know will work from dawn until dusk each day to provide the best future for their children, yet by doing this they might be harming their kids more than assisting them. You see, economic security is important, but it isn't the most critical issue in a child's development. Children need continuous interaction, both with other children and their parents. This is, after all, how they develop and learn in the first years of their lives - something that will affect them for the rest of their days. If you can not read to your kids every night, they will have a much harder time learning how to read when they reach school. This is why kids audio books can be such a good idea.
The first time I bought my children audio books on cd was when I was traveling on a business trip for some weeks. I had been reading to my daughter from the same book every night for a week or 2, and we were approximately half-way finished with it. She was very unhappy to see me go, and I knew that she would truly miss that tale. On a whim, I went to the neighborhood audio book shop and discovered that I was able to get a copy of it. At first, she was a tad bit uneasy about listening to the children audiobook. She told me that she wanted to hear me reading it, not some tape recorder. Nonetheless, when she figured out that I wasn't going to stay no matter how much she begged and pleaded, she relented and made the decision to listen to the kids audio books.
She actually really enjoyed it. I like to think that she still enjoys the way I read more than she likes kids books on cd, but I bet it is a close call. The children audiobook readers are awesome. My diction is not bad, and I'm a pretty emotional reader, but these are real qualified performers. Your average run-of-the-mill father just simply can not compete! They know exactly how to read children books to make them exciting and interactive, keeping your children on the edge until the very last page. Although my daughter is still unhappy when I go out of town, the kids books on tape make my trip a little bit easier on her. Both of us are quite happy about that.
