I am aware that at times we really need guiding with something, but I think the amount of self-help books out there is just this side of bizarre. Doesn't anybody know how to do something now without some complete stranger telling them what to do?
I am being a bit harsh on self improvement books, I know that, but there are truly good ones and there are some which are simply worthless. Some of them are not much more than collections of success quotes. Do not get me wrong, there is not a thing wrong with success quotes, I love success quotes as much as the next guy. But you need a little more than that as a basis for a whole book! The funny part is that the ones which are ineffective are the ones which seem to be the very best sellers. There are indeed hard things in life, and if you could do with help that you can get from a book, I think it is wonderful that you can obtain that assistance. Still, there are a few things that are common good sense. You don't need self help journals to help you with these issues, and you are not giving yourself quite enough of an opportunity to think for yourself.
I have purchased a few self-help books in my day, and the majority of them saddened me when I finished them.
