7 fatal mistakes people make in interviews…

November 24th, 2009 by Shelley No comments »

I was just talking with an old and dear friend today, she was sharing with me that she has just got a new job! yipee! She mentioned that she came across a special report I had written “The 7 fatal mistakes people make in interviews”, that I had given her daughter when I gave a presentation to her ranger guide group. It must have worked, she got the job. So many of my clients have reported exactly the same thing. The read through the report before they go into interview and they come out with the job. If you’d like a copy of the report just click here and send me a message with “7 fatal mistakes” as the subject and I’ll get an ecopy of it right over to you.

til next time,

Are you getting ready for a great 2010?

November 19th, 2009 by Shelley No comments »

Yes, I know it’s only mid November, however one of my mentor’s Jim Rohn says don’t start a day, week, month or year before you’ve FINISHED them. That mean’s planning, so I figure that NOW is a great time to start planning for 2010.

What do you want to achieve?
physically
mentally
career
leisure
social
family
significant other
financially

once you have it clear start writing it down each day, start visuallising it each day and start being grateful for it each day, as if you all ready have all those things.

A life by design, building a life of your dreams – you can do it, you deserve it.

Make it happen.

The Value Of Coaching

November 9th, 2009 by Shelley No comments »

I’m off an adventure in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, I’m off to Canberra to begin a 3 month coaching experience. The first session needs to be in person, so just like going for a job interview I have my route, transport and location planned down to a tee.

Coaching is one of the things that sets apart the successful from the not so successful. One of my mentors says “be hungry for coaching”. The difference that a skilled helper can make to your plans and actions is enormous. I recently engaged the services of an organisational wizard to prepare my financials and just in the first session we had he was able to give me some ideas that streamlined my processes and made them that much more effective. We are often too close to our own work to be able to see how we can improve, a fresh pair of eyes, particularly a fresh pair of experienced eyes can work absolute wonders.

So what am I hoping to get from my 3 months of coaching – pretty much the support and impetus to develop and ACTION, ACTION, ACTION need I say more a simple yet effective marketing and sales / process / plan that I just HAVE to do. Sitting back and waiting for the phone to ring, Word of Mouth works very nicely but not nicely enough that I’m meeting my stretch goals. I’ll keep you posted on my progress here on the blog, hopefully it will prove an inspiration to you too.

Could you use some Career Action Step Coaching? Why not give me a call, 9888 9372 or send me a message and see how it might be good for you.

’til next time,
wish me luck with all my connections for tomorrow

you are bold, gorgeous, talented and fabulous

celebrate EVERYTHING…

October 26th, 2009 by Shelley No comments »

As an absolute aficionado of all things personal development I take action on ideas that really appeal to me, to check them out and add them into my GOOD habits, if they work for me.  It takes a conscious effort but I’ve found it well worthwhile.  One of the latest ideas that I’ve been taking action on is to celebrate every little success.  For example my daughter delivers pamphlets and I accompany her for safety and exercise reasons.  Every street we finish or corner we turn I have a quiet little celebration.  It’s fantastic.  It nurtures the inner child and really does encourage better performance because there is a reward, not just at the end but at every little, tiny milestone along the way.  I’m really enjoying it and finding it a great habit!

Why not try it for yourself and let us know how you go, in the comments section.

‘tl next time,

you are bold, gorgeous, talented and fabulous

performance appraisal 2nd tip

October 21st, 2009 by Shelley No comments »

OK, when do you start thinking about your next performance appraisal?

Probably about one week before your next performance appraisal is due, just to be clear, if you have a performance appraisal in one week’s time and your next appraisal AFTER that one is in 6 months, then it’s time to start thinking about the appraisal in 6 months time, one week before your current appraisal. That sounds very contorted here is it in tabular format:

Today’s date 21 October, 2009

Next performance appraisal 28 October, 2009

and your next performance appraisal AFTER 28 October, 2009 is 28 April, 2010

Then the time to start thinking and planning for your April 2010 appraisal is TODAY 21, October, 2009.

If you’ve left your 28 October appraisal planning until now, forget it, it’s going to be a tough sell for you.

Two critical points about performance appraisals are to get a clear indication of WHAT you are being assessed on and what KPIs, KRAs you can set / negotiate for (April 2010).  Once this is clear it’s just a matter of making sure you meet them and KEEP RECORDS of meeting and exceeding them.

The other critical point is to set your own personal KPIs and KRAs. This will keep you interested and growing as a person and a professional These KPIs can be work or personally related.

And here I will quote Jim Rohn

work on your job and you earn a living, work on yourself and you can create a fortune

til next time

you are bold, gorgeous, fabulous and talented, and more so every day.
